BioMy closest protector and ally is Bliss. He is a seven year old Mini Doodle. It was love at first sight. We first met online before he could open his big brown eyes. The first time I held him was Mother's Day 2010.
We have enjoyed many adventures together. He swam in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans before he was two years old. My constant companion is always close by my side.
I had suffered a serious trauma. My diagnosis of PTSD is a constant struggle to deal with. It never really goes away. After many years of therapy with a various professionals if finally wanted more for my life. My Dr asked me what I was going to do now that I felt better than I ever thought I could. " I'm getting a puppy" his eyes popped open with surprise. "A puppy? "
Bliss entered training as soon as he was able. He excelled in his class of puppy socialization. It was on to obedience school and eventually he passed his CGN (Canine Good Neighbour) We were both proud of our accomplishments together. Our partnership was going places.
Having read about Therapeutic Paws of Canada we accepted another challenge. Bliss became a therapy dog. The situation was a bit unusual because he was already my Service Dog and fully acknowledged for his devotion with an ID badge, signed by my Neuropsychologist and dog trainer. We completed many joyful hours of training with other dogs. His confidant impish cuteness brought joyful tears to our classes. We went on to volunteer in Long Term Care facilities, universities , assisted living facilities and homeless shelters. His loveable repertoire of tricks and kind kisses brought joy to many.
We are now both officially retired but we just can't stop doing what we trained together to do. Our daily Oceanside walks where we socialize with friends bring smiles to most passers by. We have applied for an theatrical audition and are awaiting a reply . He might be physically too small, but his presence is large.
I feel confident that our lives together will bring curiosity, joy and laughter where ever we go.
