BioGrace was synchronistically brought to us from a kill centre in California, a month after I had to put down my beloved wire fox terrier. I had no plans do take in another dog at that time - and, I was planning to buy another "Wire".
When I first met her at the home of a friend who was fostering her, she looked me up and down, then climbed onto my lap and gave me several sniffs, licked my face and curled up in my lap.
Despite all attempts at declining this little girl, I knew it "was meant to be". We had bonded - immediately. She was initially nervous and afraid - of everything and everybody. But, she was loving and kind to all other dogs and other people, and expressed an incredible amount of appreciation for being loved and taken care of.
She is the most dedicated, loving, and trainable and sweet dog I have ever met. She has won the hearts of everyone in our little town because she is "joy and happiness on 4 legs".
This photo was taken on the first day that she learned about "balls". She had never seen one before, and was clearly confused about the game. After watching a couple of other dogs chase and catch a ball, she tried it herself, and immediately went "bum over head", having stopped her front legs but not her rear ones. She was totally delighted and proud of herself for her accomplishment !!
We also have a rescued yorkie, who came from neglected circumstances. The yorkie resented her and was very difficult for many months. They now sleep together and play together.
I also watched Grace on 2 occasions, with wounded birds. She shouted out to me, both times......and did not hurt the birds at all - but sniffed, was very gentle, and knew something was wrong. I came to her and saw what she had found, and helped out. I was SOOO proud of her reaching out to help - and asking me to do that !
I named her Grace, because it was grace that saved her from being euthanized - and grace that brought her to our home.
Grace is, without question, the most wonderful, loving, smart and sweet-tempered pooch - ever !! - and I am so grateful that she was brought to us. She reminds me to have "joy" - every single day - and the rewards are endless.
I support the SPCA every chance I get - and will never "buy" a breed again. Our experience has been 100%.......pure "joy".
Such a grateful mama !
"My rescue pup - rescued me." And, I will be eternally grateful. She is the joy of my life !
