Bio
When I first read Chevy & Mynx's story, it was a week after I had lost my second of two elderly cats whom I'd raised up from kittens. My heart was broken, and I thought it would be a long time before I could open it up to another pet. But I couldn't stop thinking about the sad story of these two cats who had been surrendered together.
Chevy, 12, a tiny, affection demanding character had lost her original person when they died, and then been passed from home to home until she landed with Mynx, and they bonded. Mynx, a hefty 6 year old and with a face grumpier than the cat who is famous for that disposition, had only known one home, one person. She felt utterly abandoned, and it showed. Within three days of reading their story, I adopted them. I realized that it wasn't forgetting my old friends, but honouring them, to share the love in my heart and the warmth of my home with these two cats who needed both those things and had gone through a similar loss. A year and a half later, it seems their previous suffering has been forgotten, and they are quite at home. Chevy has bonded with me to the point that I joke I am HER companion animal, and Mynx! I think the smile on Mynx's face in this picture says it all! It took her a while to trust that she was safe and wouldn't be abandoned again, but now she is like a different cat. Adopting them has helped me to deal with the loss of my old friends, though I mourn for them now and always, and I know it was the best decision I could have made, for all of us. And none of this would have been possible without the amazing staff and volunteers at the SPCA. These two were given as much love as possible during their 3 month stay, and the SPCA staff were committed to keeping Chevy and Mynx together. I'm so happy they did, because as you can see, these girls love each other. Animals are capable of loving attachments as strong as humans. They have feelings, emotions, moods. If you love them, they will love you back. I strongly urge you to donate what you can to this worthy cause; to adopt instead of shopping when it comes to bringing a new pet into your home; to consider adopting a senior pet. Watching them flourish after hardship is one of the best feelings imaginable, a gift to them and to yourself. So go on... you know you've been thinking about it... open your heart and your home to an animal that so badly needs that, and you will find out how badly you needed them, too.
