BioHello there... and a big "THANK YOU" to the SPCA; for all that they do, for so many!
I hope that you choose my photo to represent, and assist the SPCA in their amazing efforts to help all creatures; great and small.
My name is Layna... and I am a female Border Collie. Although, I look very happy in this photo, I was a very sick little puppy! As I came down with "Puppy Strangles" or Juvenile Cellulitis...which caused me so much pain, and suffering; breathing problems, skin infections and hair loss, to name a few. I came from a large cattle ranch in Alberta, from hard working parents. I was healthy and doing well... and was suppose to be sold to my new owners, in the BC Interior. However, when they found out I was sick... they did not want me; I am not sure why exactly! Was it because I needed antibiotics, and corticosteroid treatments or because I might not be pretty; as my hair was falling out around my eyes and nose and I stood the chance of becoming permanently hairless, or the fact that I might just die? Regardless, my breeder took a chance on me; with the hope of finding someone to take me on, as I was not "sale" material and in need of someone who would be able to care for me, in my time of need, and rescue me. My human; she likes to tell people that it was me, who has/had in fact, rescued her! For you see, my human was just as sick as I was; and she too needed/needs medication to keep her well, and sometimes in this life, the one who thinks they are doing the "rescuing" ends up being the one who needed it more ;0)
I did fully recover from my illness, and my fur grew back; I am told that I still look like a puppy, although I will be 4 years young this summer. The BC SPCA Spay and Neuter Clinic assisted me with my healing and I am so grateful. My human loves me very much: we have been on many adventures, and look forward to many more. We take good care of each other, and she appreciates the gift of me: each and every day. That is what this life is all about...to love unconditionally and be loved in return; and that is what the SPCA does each and every day :0) Please help support those who can not speak for themselves... with love to all xox
