Entrant's First NameMax
BioMax is a rescue dog who came from a Kill Shelter in New Orleans. We suspect he was the son of dogs who became feral after Hurricane Katrina. He is gentle, loving, and kind, especially to children. But because of his childhood trauma, he is frightened of men in dark suits who may remind him of those who captured him; he is terrified of the sound of metal rattling as he was brought in a transport truck with 100 other dogs to Canada in an SPCA rescue (Hamilton, Ontario), and so a rattling cookie tin upsets him. He was walked in his early years with chihuahuas; I believe he thinks he is a tiny dog, even though he is very tall, perhaps the son of a Great Dane and a Black Lab. His only bark, a very deep voice, is heard if someone knocks at the door. He especially enjoys running the trails on his long leash with his BFF, Bean, who is also a rescue, a little beagle cross. Of course, he loves to swim in the ocean and to chase balls. If there are three balls, he will get all of them in his mouth. A few times, he found a chicken bone that some messy person has left on the street, and even though he holds that little greasy bone in his teeth and stares me down in a tug of war, he will eventually let it go, maybe understanding my words that I cannot bear to lose him nor can I afford to pay a big vet bill over a little chicken bone. And finally, he will not jump on the furniture, although he has never been disciplined for that; he just seems to know that he is better off on his special polar fleece bed where he sleeps with his multitude of toys and treats. One of his favourite activities is to bring his stuffies to the vacuum where he taunts the monster power head, begging the vacuum to try to steal his toy. That game could go on all day long!
Truthfully, Max has NO faults, except that he is never off the leash because he has such a passion for sniffing and he has selective hearing. If left to it, he would swim kilometres across the lake at the cottage chasing a Mallard - and so sadly, he has to be on his long leash even when we swim with him! Max is our boy. We tell him many times a day how much we love him!
