Bio
When I found King Henry at the SPCA, he was in quarantine in "the back" due to a herpes infection in his mouth (don't worry, it's just contagious to cats, as you might be wondering!). He had one eye swollen shut and fur and weight in disarray, due to his mouth sores. He was pawing at the bars with the most heart melting meow . I decided to foster him, and filled out the application to do so (fostering sick animals can help them recover more quickly, also). By the time I went to buy a bunch of cat stuff, and rounded back to pick him up, it was a few hours later. King Henry examined the perimeter of my condo, with his back rounded and hair sticking up, slowly, and thoroughly. He then proceeded to plunk down on my area rug and roll around purring, at which point, I believe, we both knew he was home :-) I said to all my friends that I wouldn't become a cat lady, but that is absolutely ridiculous! I also said that he would not be sleeping in my bed. Yeah right! He curls up in whatever nook he chooses and purrs away. He gained a healthy amount of weight and his fur thickened as his infection's symptoms disappeared and he received oodles of (measured) food and brushing. He is super social with dogs and children, but not needy, which is such a sweet balance, for a cat (I think, but I'm biassed. I think he's purrrrfect). He had an emergency situation about two months ago, requiring immediate hospitalization for a urinary block, and I'm so happy I knew enough to take him in right away, when I saw him squatting without any urination. It was so stressful on him, and me, and financially hit me pretty hard as well! It was the same week that my grandmother died. Three days later, he came home, and is now on prescription food. I can't tell you how happy I was and am to have him home again. I hope to rescue more animals in the future, when my living situation and financial situation allows me to do so. The SPCA was really great in helping me get King Henry healthy, and also, in the initial consultation, to make sure I would be good for him, too, so thank you, SPCA! Also, happy to report, that King Henry is curled up next to me examining my moving fingers as I type, in good, fluffy health! I think he needs some play time, so time to throw some twist ties ;-)
