Mini Wheat was brought to the SPCA in 2003 by a kind hearted couple who had found her by the Pat Bay highway, sitting on a piece of styrofoam while the rain poured down.
Mini Wheat was found to be malnourished, with her nails overgrown and cutting into her sensitive paw pads, fur badly matted, and had a severe, painful mouth and upper respiratory infection. She appeared to be elderly but after she went into heat several months after I took her home, we realized she was a young cat of maybe 8-12 months old.
After several months of medical care and TLC, her real personality started to shine; 14 years later, she is the princess and ruler over the 3 other cats and the dog in the household. She gets her meals hand delivered to her choice of resting places, and enjoys lying in sunbeams and sleeping by the heating vents in her cozy bed.
Mini Wheat made her appearance in the 2006 Paws for a Cause walk on Dallas Road, the only cat there; snug in her carrier and pushed in a stroller amongst a sea of different sized and shaped dogs!
She has some ongoing issues with arthritis and asthma, but daily medications keep her comfortable and happy, and most nights she likes to snuggle on the bed on my pillow!
In her younger days, she was also a PATS therapy cat, enjoying attention at a local seniors home and providing joy to them in return.
Her best cat friend has sadly passed away almost 3 years ago, but for 12 years, they groomed each other and slept snuggled up together. Mini tries to do the same with our dog, but the dog doesn't return her affection! Instead, when Mini gets into the dog's bed, the dog gets up right away and lets Mini have the bed, without a fight.
