It’s been just over a year since I adopted Thomas from the BCSPCA Vancouver shelter. I usually rescue older sick cats but after a few illnesses and deaths I needed some kitten energy. Having two older cats already in my home I first adopted Thomas at 8 weeks and then quickly realized he needed an energetic friend to play with hence, little Emelia was adopted a few months later at 10 weeks old (Emelia came from VOKRA). Watching the two of them explore, learn, develop and somewhat mature over the past months has been such a joy to my heart. Thomas is forever happy and curious. The day is filled with nothing but play, snuggles, eating and sleep of course. Emelia is a bit more cautious but once she starts investigating and playing she goes 150 miles an hour. I often just sit on my couch and watch them run up and down the stairs tearing through the living room and kitchen areas. My older cat Mylo who I also adopted as a kitten from the BCSPCA 13 years ago acts as their guardian and protector. I think both Thomas and Emelia think Mylo is their daddy. When he is willing to play with either of them they become overly rambunctiously happy and excited. Beatrice my elder female cat who I adopted at the same time and same shelter as Thomas sits high on her perch and ignores them all. She is the true ruler of the home. Thank you BCSPCA for rescuing, caring for and adopting back out not just my animals but thousands of animals over the years!!!
