Animal BioWe adopted Max last summer from a Westie Rescue Group. He came to us as a very shy nervous fearful introverted dog . He had spent his first 5 years contained to small spaces and a crate. He had had no regular exercise ( no walks or plays) or was allowed outside for any physical activity. He was so out of shape when we first got him. He had a hard time going up and down stairs. He did not know how to play with toys and was terrified of squeaky toys. Chasing a ball was a puzzle to him. He is a terrier, for goodness sake! His life has changed dramatically with us. He is walked daily, he has a big backyard to run around and supervise! He has Westie friends and loves playing ball now. He has gone camping and is learning how to make friends with other dogs and people. When I took this picture he was in the trail of some rodent from a pile of leaves in our yard last fall. The critter was long gone but he was in full terrier mode running around sniffing and following the trail ! He was having so much fun and looked so happy we both had to laugh! Dirt washes off ! It was so nice to see him being a regular dog and having fun. Now he is a very physically active strong little dog. He is enjoying affection more and as the months pass and he is much happier and settled . We love him to bits!
