If angels are real, Ellie is one of them. She came to us at a time when we needed her as much as she needed us. German Shepherd/Husky mix, born in northern B.C., she was first rescued and adopted out in her first years of life. Sadly, after one year with her new family, she was brought back to the Vancouver shelter. She then waited 6 months over winter until the right family came for her.

She needed the kind of companionship that most city folk didn't have time for. She needed so much love to reassure her a little gust of wind wouldn't hurt her. She needed calm and quiet country living, and fortunately we fit the bill.

We brought her home to Cloverdale for a trial, knowing full well she wouldn't be going back. Years later, she now has a bed in every room, claim to every pillow in the house, a big brother cat Buster, and all the adventures she can handle down in her new home in Crescent Beach. She still has a hard time making other friends, but with her mama and papa by her side she has become so healthy, strong and brave. And while she may look tough on the outside, she is the biggest suck you'll ever meet.

Every morning we have a dance party in the living room, she makes waking up so joyous. Everything is new and exciting. It's like living with a toddler! She even cracks jokes at her dad's expense, intentionally giving mum kisses when he's asked her for a kiss. Her comedic timing is impeccable, loudly farting just when things are about to become too serious in the house.

Though we are not proponents of dressing animals up for our amusement, Ellie will be at her mum's feet, looking up at her longingly, every time she is getting dressed up, tail wagging like crazy. So every now and then, mum offers her a fancy necklace to wear and she struts around the house all pleased with herself.

Somehow she always knows when we are trying to take a picture of her. She'll scuttle away bashfully. It's rare we get a clear shot of her. So, call this a Christmas miracle, not only did we manage to get her to sit still for this photo, she even sneered for it.

We promise you that this is 100% a legitimate smile. She knew exactly what was going on, and she owned that flower collar like the true princess she is.
