Animal BioJasmine was 12 years old when my wife and I adopted her from the SPCA.
She was distant, fearful, anxious and distrusting. But over time as she chose to become part of our family, she captured our hearts. Walks were her favourite thing. She didn't play, fetch balls, or like toys. I am sure she viewed car rides as a necessary evil to get her to a new walking destination. As she got older the walks became more about the time out with us than the distance. Mount Doug Park was always a favourite.
Earlier this year while out on a walk, Jasmine collapsed. We rushed her to the Vet, but they discovered a large tumour on her heart and masses in her lungs. It was time for our Journey together to end.
We don't know a lot about Jasmine before she came to share her life with us and I don't think it matters much anyway. In the three short years we had with her, she showed us what resilience truly is. Jasmine taught us that love and patience were the foundations of healing and moving forward; that hope is the fuel which enables the journey.
