Taco is the chicken with 9 lives. She’s survived a hole in her head, being left out for raccoons, 2 dog attacks, 2 flocks of hens who didn’t like her much, a hawk attack and many other crazy encounters. It amazes me what that chicken survived! And yet despite all that she’s still a fun lovin’ girl! Taco was had been gave away by two family’s before coming to me. When I got her she had a big hole in the top of her head and her chances of survival were slim, but this little lady was a fighter so I had to give her a chance. With a little TLC she made a full recovery. Taco went from a bloody, beat up chicken with a hole in her head and parts of her bald without feathers, to a gorgeous hen with a quirky personality. One of my favourite things about her is that she always comes running whenever someone grabs a shovel. Anytime anyone’s digging in the dirt, Tacos right next to them scratching and grabbing any worms or bugs that turn up. It’s adorable! Another thing she does that makes us laugh is every morning when she’d wake up she knew to come to my bedroom window and peck on the glass until I would wake up and go feed her. She’s very smart! Not only is she intelligent and funny, she was also and amazing chicken friend. Sadly one of my chickens ended up going blind. Taco was her great protector. She showed her where food and water was, she helped her find her way around the yard and she chased off any of the other chickens if they tried to hurt her or take her food. She saved me from a lot of worrying! Anyone who believes that chickens don’t really have any personality, have not met Taco. Even just when you talk to her she looks at you and clucks as if she’s really knows what you’re saying. Taco really is the best chicken you’ll ever meet. Even though I’m the one who rescued Taco I feel like she’s the real hero. She’s an inspiration to all and she never fails to make me laugh! She really proves that rescuing an animal and giving them a second chance, might just get you a new best friend!
