Animal BioMona was a gift from heaven. I was walking through the forest one afternoon with my nieces bulldog Frank we passed several people with their dogs and said the usual pleasantries. One woman stopped me and said ‘what an adorable bulldog!’ I replied ‘thank you but he’s not mine, I lost my beloved Frenchie Emma on Valentine’s Day from spinal cancer’. The friendly woman replied ‘well I get the updates from the SPCA and this little girl was surrendered to the Vancouver branch yesterday’ whilst showing me a picture of Mona. The picture depicted a sweet little girl timid and physically wounded with a gaping wound in her side. I knew in an instant that I had to meet this little one. Once I got home I looked up Mona on the SPCA site. I learned that she had been neglected and required emergency medical attention to which I made a donation. I called the branch and asked about the process, I completed the adoption application in advance and went to meet Mona the next day March 15th. I arrived at the shelter and there she was waiting at the reception with all of the friendly loving staff. They invited me to say hello and when our eyes met I immediately noticed a twinkle in her eye, a beautiful smile and an extremely enthusiastic quirky little wiggling tail. My heart blossomed, I needed to know more about this special girl and how I could become part of her recovery. I contacted my husband and he told me ‘honey my heart is still so raw from the loss of Emma’ only a month earlier and I said to him ‘oh love I know mine still hurts too, but there’s just something about this little one, I don’t want to pass by’. He agreed to come to meet her and within minutes seeing the natural connection that Mona & I had made and seeing her sweet face, we had to take her home. We fostered Mona for 3 weeks which involved taking her to her multiple appointments and check ups and taking her for dental surgery. The entire fostering period working with the SPCA as Mona’s support was a wonderful experience. On April 8th, 2018 with Mona well on the mend, my husband and I officially adopted this precious girl. Everyday we count our blessings how this beautiful happy soul came into our lives. Each morning we start our day with long walks at the beach and throughout the day have special cuddle sessions. Helping Mona with her healing has helped heal our broken hearts. An unforgettable Valentines gift from our Emma up in heaven...
