A death in the family you say - oh, just a cat
Just the sweetest, wisest, oldest super-senior-cat I ever met
Hale, healthy, happy for twenty-five years three months
And then ten days of declining to her end
She liked us all, adored me to no end
Something left my life I'll never find again
The house no longer feels a home
No more the greeting meow on meeting
No more the constant trusting presence
No more the uncritical acceptance and affection
Too old to jump, too big for lap
No mice endangered by this gentle giant cat
No roaming hunter she, her needs were few
Warmth at one's side on couch or bed
In sunny spot or by a glowing fire
She was content to rest
The longest tabby body you could find
A narrow waist and long back legs
Shifting shapes of limbs and patterned fur
Huge huge green, gold, brown-flecked eyes
Would hold your gaze and never flinch
Until they clouded when she died
Goodbye dear friend
