Animal BioDozer is a 9 year old Boston Terrier that I rescued from abuse when he was 7 months old.
The first year was a lot of work training him because he had some behavior issues from the abuse, but he was incredibly quick to learn and willing once he realized he was loved and would never be left all day in a tiny kennel alone, or hit. He quickly realized the whole house was his with toys, a dog couch special for him, his own blankets etc., plus he took over my bed.
Dozer has had 6 surgeries in his 9 years and suffers from severe allergies like humans ie. grass , foods, cleaners , so we use natural products only for him. The allergies affect his eyes, skin, ears, feet and digestive system so we use a lot of herbal products for him.
Dozer often requires re-checks and often had check ups every 6 months due to his allergy issues along with the six surgeries that Langley Animal Clinic did, including all his shots.
The interesting thing is Dozer still gets very excited to see his long time veterinarians Leanne and Laura MacDonald each time we go regardless of what they have had to do to him? It is also a four hour drive from Kamloops to the Langley Animal clinic for Dozer but that still doesn't stop his excitement. He always has an amazing demeanor!
Dozer is a very happy friendly boy who always wants to play and when he sees other dogs he will do his little circle dance and bounce around them . This is his way of saying, "lets play."
Dozer now has arthritis from his broken leg that had a splint, cast and seven screws in it his first year which was removed a year later due to finally gaining weight after being rescued. Prior he was under weight.
Dozer believes each person we walk by is supposed acknowledge him and when they don't he gives them his little head twist with these questioning eyes until they pet him then we can continue on with our walk.
Really Dozer saved me when I went through post concussion depression by making me laugh, forcing me to walk each day by nudging me and giving a little bark saying "whooo whoooo, "its time to go."
He apparently was one of the most entertaining dogs at Surrey Country Canine Retreat when he goes there in the summer for a social play day.
Dozer preceded to show the other dogs how to use a kiddie pool.
He loves to jump right in, lye down and swirl around in circles after playing hard while the other pups stood around the pool and watched him :) The staff there were quite entertained by him.
Surrey Country canine usually requires pre-booking but not for Dozer. We would visit once a month and drive four hours from Kamloops to get there and the owner said we didn't need to pre-book because they enjoyed him so much.
Clearly this 40 lb Boston is a bundle of love and joy wherever we go and Dozer changed my life filling me with so much happiness making him my priority in every decision I make.
I don't even travel anymore unless I can bring him because he lost 9 lbs on the one trip I took for a week when I first got him. A bit of separation anxiety but understandable after what he had been through and now being the king of the home :)
I highly recommend getting a rescue who are often so grateful to be chosen, loved and cared for and also so forgiving of their past hurt when abused. One would never know Dozer was terribly abused his first year, now the world revolves around him which he deserves!
