Bianco was rescued by us in Doha Qatar in 2010 when my husband was based there. He strayed into our residential compound from another next-door compound following a female cat. He looked very vulnerable and as it was the mating season, other feral cats messed him up. He did belong to someone but when they were contacted by our security guard, he was told to get rid of it. This message enraged us and we took him in and as he was so badly bitten scratched by the other feral cats, we had to bathe him to get all the gunk out. Surprisingly he was so at home with the hot water on him and enjoyed being bathed and then dried. He's an Angora with amazing long hair and Pure white with beautiful amber eyes.
We had planned to get him neutered get all shots given and give him for adoption.
It just so happened that Vets there take full advantage of Expats where the money's concerned. The vet told us that the cat was around 10 months and he would be neutered, given rabies and the other important shots etc. Almost 5/6 things the same day. My husband asked her all this in one day? She said ‘Yes, we do it all the time’. We were asked to leave him the next day in the morning and pick him up at 5 PM. We did just that. We picked him up around 5 pm brought him home. What took place 25 minutes later just shocked and scared us -Our flooring was white ceramic tiles, we saw blood everywhere and it was our little mite. I called up the vet’s clinic and explained it to the duty vet. He asked me to get the cat to the clinic immediately.
We rushed him to the clinic that was 40 minutes by car. On arrival we realized that the vet was a fellow Canadian and he said, that Bianco ,due to having so many shots of different types in one go had proving almost fatal too much for a young cat to handle and his blood was not clotting, and his lungs were filing up, so he was put on a respirator and also the Vet had to suture the neutered area, though for male cats it’s just folded not sutured he had to suture it. A lot of various injections given for clotting and he was in a touch and go that night. He was on the respirator for 2 days and in the clinic for 3 days.
Well, luckily for us, because he was young, he survived due to timely intervention. We were so happy to get him home again and slowly and surely, we nursed him back to health. Initially, there was no question of keeping him! but this changed and both of us kept him close to our hearts and he became our most precious baby

We brought him to Canada, in 2012, when we finally came home for good. He is the best thing that happened to us and today he is the King of the house. Our son when he came home on visits, he taught Bianco what a dog learns! He sits on command and, shakes a paw when asked to sit and does not touch his food till we Say ‘Ok eat’. Recently he’s learnt to roll over on command. Besides that, like a dog, he waits patiently near my husband when he puts on his walking shoes, eager to be taken out to the back yard when he loves to chase birds, crows and thinks he a great hunter. He hates it when the squirrels and birds tease him.
We always had dogs but after our last dog that lived to the age of 12, and us getting on in years did not really feel we could give pets so much time, but Bianco changed all this with his sweet nature. He continues to enjoy the fortnightly baths he thinks he's in the Spa! (he sleeps on our bed) The only wet food he likes is Fancy feast but just the grilled variety. He loves having talks with my husband and follows him like a dog. We allow him to go into the yard under strict supervision. He's the most docile cat. He loves to walk on the leash too. He likes to catch bees and when one stung him lightly on his nose it was hilariously to see the way he started arching his back, of course, we checked that he was ok. Maybe he will stop bothering the bees now.
A naughty thing he does as he’s grown older is to ask for extra attention when we are sleeping-As cats do, though he sleeps three-quarters of the night at our feet on the bed, he makes it a habit to wake us up around 6 AM. My husband wakes up early but his first meals at 7 Am. However, if and when my husband is out (early morning walk or golf) and I am asleep he wakes me up with first a soft pad against my cheek when I turn over and get back to sleep, he gets on the bedside table and start dropping stuff, and then jumps towards my husband’s side where I can’t reach him and starts his wicked acts. My side has a telephone that has alarms etc. and one day he scared the heck out of me by pressing a button on it when loud music started blaring, scaring me and him too!
Whatever he does we just enjoy it, he’s a real sweetheart.
I have been thinking of adopting a kitten so he can have company but I am told young kittens can annoy and tire older cats, so I am hesitating, but who knows I just may get a little one if one comes up for adoption.
