Toby came to us from SARA Society 8 years ago at 5 months old, as his first family weren't prepared for a puppy, and surrendered him to their vet.

He was healthy for the first 6 years of his life, but both cruciates were damaged within 3 months of each other.. and he became the bionic dog with metal in both rear legs. A quick recovery, and back to being the happy go lucky guy.

September 2017 he was diagnosed with auto-immune blood disorder - cause unknown. His red blood count was extremely low, but with the help of prednisone and other drugs, he was able to slowly but surely regain his health... to the point where he was cautiously given the diagnosis of being in remission Feb. 22, 2018.

The very next day - when he rushed to the front window to keep something outside in line, he caught his left front leg in what we guess to be the couch cushions - and it snapped in the worst possible spot - just below where it joins the body.

After 2 attempts to set the limb, we made the decision to go with the specialist's recommendation to amputate, and thus began his life as a Tripawd.

Over the past year he has rejoined his weekly Daycare playdates, and enjoys his walks... just a little shorter than they used to be.

We still run the risk of his blood disease returning, as remission means the red blood count is at an acceptable level, but as we don't know the cause - it could return. No vaccines; avoid operations/anesthetic, etc. etc.)

But nothing slows this guy's tail from going faster than an electric egg beater. His whole body shakes when the tail gets going.
