Meet Hazel, Hazel Basil or Detective B (DB) as we refer to her affectionately. Half Bernese Mountain Dog, half Great Pyrenees.

DB likes to Pyr paw (Pyrenees paw) others when they are sitting on the couch with a coffee in hand. Chase seagulls at the beach and not come when called( we have to pretend to leave...). Run laps around the yard , pulling my father's expensive palm trees out, and stealing pulled pork sandwiches from plates when the rightful owner isn't looking.

HOWEVER for me, someone who wasn't sure they were a dog person (always having had cats since childhood), DB has made me crazy, over the moon obsessed with her and all dogs for that matter. DB gives kisses on demand , constantly demands pets, and is more excited to see me home from work than my own husband (kidding honey!).

But all kidding aside, at just 1 year of age now, Hazel has just had major knee surgery, due to a genetic and unforeseen issue. It was a blow to the gut for us initially but having had to watch her go through this recently, my beloved family member, has made me reflect and become so thankful she chose us and we are able to financially and emotionally support her through this difficult time. It breaks my heart to think there are other dogs out there that need a home or care, and do not have it or anyone to love them the way I do Hazel. This is why this is important to me- it is one small way I can help and it was all inspired by my wild Hazelnut.
