Jenny’s story began on the busy streets of Guanajuato, Mexico, where she was found darting through traffic by Mex-Can Pet Partners, the rescue founded by Marlene Davis to connect vulnerable dogs with loving homes on Vancouver Island. A friend of Marlene’s, writer Jane Mundy, spotted the tiny, panicked dog and brought her to safety, naming her Jenny - a name that fit so perfectly we never changed it. We adopted her in Victoria on December 19, 2020, and she quickly captured our hearts. Though her early months with us showed traces of past trauma (always watching for open doors, uneasy around other dogs) she slowly learned she was home. In time she became our gentle little guardian, bravely barking at delivery drivers, squirrels, and passing cats, her tiny voice far bigger than her body. She was also remarkably photogenic, radiating a quiet beauty that surprised people when they learned she’d once been a street dog. A DNA test later revealed her to be mostly Cocker Spaniel, with a touch of “Super Mutt” magic that seemed to explain her charm.
When liver failure took her from us on December 1st, 2025, we chose to let her go peacefully at home, surrounded by love. We suspect her early life was hard, perhaps marked by overbreeding and abandonment, but her years with us were filled with comfort, safety, and devotion. No dog could have been more loved. Jenny gave our home a warmth and soul that can’t be replaced. We will miss her gentle eyes, her soft howls, her stubborn streak, and the sweetness she carried into every room. Most of all, we will miss the way she made our house feel like home.
