Maxy Bear, as he is known to our household, came to us in 2018 as a cuddly 10-year-old cat from Hertforshire just outside London, UK where we lived at the time. He was known to our neighbours and family as The Holland Park Tiger because he used to sit in his 3-storey cat condo and glare out the window at all the delivery people with his bright emerald green eyes. Who needs a guard dog when you have your own Tiger watch. Max came from a lovely family who could no longer house Max and his brother, Patty, together because they were fighting too much. Max was the “husband’s” cat from his previous family so he took a shine to my husband right away. Max’s passport from his life before us included moves to Dubai and New York before he returned to London. Max acted as a cat nanny as both our daughters came on the scene. Max used to sit right next to their cots and watch over them. He was a great watcher and would yowl if they needed us. Max is now a leisurely 17-year-old who sun tans in the south windows of Dunbar, snuggles with our daughters panda and elephant stuffies and eats the odd croissant or broccoli piece if you leave them unattended. His yowl is a deep and profound call which echos throughout our staircase every morning and evening almost as if he is performing an opera. He is a loving (read needy) and wonderful cat, a character who lives his best life. Max makes us all smile and is deserving of his inherited last name, Pal, because he is one.
