Animal BioI adopted Pixie as a puppy from the West Kootenay SPCA in March 2025 after volunteering there and falling in love with her. She was born mostly blind and with severe hip dysplasia, but she never let her disabilities slow her down. She is very sweet and playful, and she loves everyone and everything about life. She brings everyone she greets a "gift" of a toy (or random household object), the beach is her favourite place in the world, she likes hugs and will wrap her neck around me to reciprocate, she peeps like a baby bird when she can't find me, and squeals with excitement when guests come over. She also wants to sit on my lap/be held as much as possible - even though she weighs 50 lbs. She is such a wonderfully joyous dog, full of whimsy, adventure and love.
Tragically, she was diagnosed with advanced kidney failure at just 1 year of age. She has been declining rapidly, and though she still has happy and playful moments, she is also struggling a lot and does not have much time left. I am of course heartbroken - she is, as I have mentioned, absolutely wonderful, and we share an inseparable bond. I saw this contest and thought it would be a nice way to honour her, allowing her sweetness, cuteness and joy to continue spreading even when she is no longer here.
