Animal BioFrilly is a five-year-old Bearded Dragon, whom we adopted in November from a family that was not in a position to care for him any longer. He came to our home for a short stay, and will now stay with us as his forever family. Our daughter Charlotte, 12, delights in feeding Frilly worms and a variety of green leafs. He loves to have a bath in a shallow tub and scurry around the kitchen floor. Frilly loves his new habitat enclosure which has more than doubled his living space and features plenty of spots to bask under his heat lamp, climb to various elevations, or hide in one of his two enclosures. We are happy to report that Frilly is doing very well with our family, which also includes a 16-year-old cat named Little Guy. Little Guy, who came to us as a kitten from the BC SPCA, loves Frilly and tries to snoop in his habitat while Frilly is on walkabout around our house. Bearded Dragons hail from the Australian desert, and many enter a period of brumation, a sort of hibernation, during the coldest months. Their heart rate and metabolism slows, and they stir only periodically to take some water and slightly shift position. Charlotte and Little Guy watch out for him while he sleeps, and patiently wait for him to pop up when the days grow longer and the sun reappears in the sky. It could happen any minute! With love, Family Smith
