Hero Bio
Lexa was rescued in 2010 from a shelter after she had already lived in several homes. As the world was watching the opening ceremonies to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Lexa came to live with me in her forever home. At the time, Lexa had no idea that she would be beginning a lifetime filled with love, adoration, and service. I am a Learning Support Teacher in an elementary school where Lexa has joined me for the past five years working with students with varying needs. She warmly welcomes each and every visitor, regardless of age or need, giving tail wags and happy squeals to show her appreciation (and desire to be pat!). No reading or math group can begin until each student has returned the favour with pats and cuddles. Lexa is the best listener, providing open ears for readers who could use some extra confidence. She is always open to a receiving pat, whether it's beside a student at his desk to help him focus on his work, or on a beanbag chair with a student (or adult) needing help to calm down and successfully continue with her day. Lexa has an important job in the classroom to make learning more accessible for students with obstacles. Whether or not she realizes that she is doing this job is irrelevant. She gives so naturally and effortlessly. That is what makes the classroom Lexa's true forever home.
