We met Chloe when we visited our local BCSPCA shelter and heard about a cruelty case involving a number of golden retrievers and poodles. The story pulled at our heart-strings and we knew we had to take a look. We carried our 4yr old protesting son through the dog area; he is scared of dogs and has been since he was a toddler. He would barely look at any of the dogs. Until we saw Chloe. He asked to get a little closer. This dog looked so sad. She was matted, very thin and just lying in the corner of the kennel. Our son held onto the enclosure door and started talking softly to her. This dog looked up and slowly got to her feet on shaking, skinny legs. Then her tail started to wag and the two of them went nose to nose. Our son looked at us and asked where her mom and dad were. That was it. We just couldn't let her stay. She needed some treatments and a spay but she came home with us on Valentines Day 2014. It hasn't been all plain sailing; we don't know how old Chloe is, somewhere between 3-5 is the best guess. She had been kept as a breeder and never lived in a house. She was nervous with new people, didn't understand what a leash was or toys were. She wasn't house-broken, had separation anxiety and had a terrible habit of eating anything in sight. However, we soon grew to love her and she is an absolute darling. We have lots of fun hiking, she was house-broken quickly and now only eats what she is supposed to! She is well socialised with people and other dogs and everyone adores her (even the cat quite liked her). We have absolutely no regrets and we are sharing this story so that you can see any dog, despite a harsh beginning in life, can become the most perfect pet and bring you much happiness! Please vote for Chloe so that the BCSPCA can continue to turn an animal's life around!
