About Us

In 1950 the Beaver County Humane Society (BCHS) received its corporate charter as a non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization authorized to operate an animal shelter and conduct all such business and activities regarding the interests of animals in the State of Pennsylvania.

BCHS is a managed, limited-admission animal shelter whose mission is to protect all domestic animals and promote of the concepts of kindness and respect for all living creatures.  At our Shelter, we care for and find permanent, loving homes for dogs, cats and other companion animals.  We have no time limit on an animal’s stay with us, and all healthy and friendly animals remain at our shelter until they are adopted.

Since its founding, BCHS has grown to meet the needs of the community and now provides comfort, care and services to more than 4,000 homeless animals each year.  BCHS is the only shelter that serves Beaver County and the contiguous parts of the surrounding counties.  The shelter is a place where people turn to for medical services for stray animals, behavioral or training information, finding a lost pet or reporting an abuse situation.  BCHS offers pet adoptions, a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program for community cats, a pet food pantry program, rabies vaccination and microchip clinics, a pet boutique, canine training classes, community education programs and other animal services.

BCHS depends entirely on philanthropic support to care for the animals and run its programs.  The shelter receives no financial operating support from donations made to any regional or national animal welfare organizations and is not directly funded through local, state or federal tax dollars.
