Otto is a rescue sprung from the Arlington, VA animal shelter the day it closed because of the coronavirus. I'm a volunteer there and snagged him before he went on view for adoption. My husband and I had been looking for a while after losing our last beagle about a year ago.

Otto's about nine years old and was found running loose near Fredericksburg, VA. He was in bad shape. He had a bad case of worms and a heart murmur and also needed five teeth pulled. Luckily, the heart murmur turned out not to be serious and the worms are gone. And he has a snaggle tooth! One of the teeth pulled was a fang and he now spends a lot of time walking around with his lip sticking out funny-it's awfully cute.

You'd never know he'd been roughing it, though. He adapted to soft pillows and tasty snacks like a champ. Otto's a wonderful dog, squishy and soft and friendly. So good with our two year old granddaughter. It's almost like living with a stuffed animal. He's very calm and lives for belly rubs and cuddles. We are very lucky!
