Abe Pugoda, the infamous and utterly adorable celebrity of the Salty Beagle Facebook group, came to BREW as a rescue in 2021. Abe is a senior puggle, half beagle and half pug, so that means he howls and yodels like a beagle and demands our attention like a pug. While Abe was in his foster home, his foster mother Shannon regularly posted updates on his eccentric and outsized personality to get the word out on him, and eventually, Abe and his antics caught the eye of a couple who had recently lost their senior puggle. It was love at first sight for us at the meet and greet, despite Abe's urgent insistence on treats. I only loved him all the more for it and we knew that little dog packed a lot of personality. Next thing you know Abe jumped into the driver's seat in the Jeep, ready to go to his new home. He's been a delight ever since. Abe is sweet, affectionate, mostly well-behaved, and occasionally grumpy like his namesake (the actor Abe Vigoda), but we wouldn't change a thing. Although Abe did not come to us as a puppy, he has shown that adopting a senior dog can be equally as rewarding, if not more. I am so glad we did.
