Ella was adopted from BREW Beagles exactly 9 years ago, or I should say she adopted me. When attending a rescue event at a pet store, I thought I was interested in other dogs I'd seen online. Ella (then called Lucy) was hiding under a table but eventually got the courage to come investigate me as I sat nearby. How could I pass her up when she'd been so brave?

She was timid for the first several years and was slow to learn to play with toys, but as she grew older in age, she grew younger in spirit and is quite playful. Visits by my friends and walks in the park helped acclimate her to other people and she is now a beggar for attention from people and overcame her shyness around children.

Ella became diabetic 2.5 years ago and is reliant on insulin. While it was an adjustment early on, her greater energy and overall good health are worth the extra dedication to maintaining a strict schedule for meals and shots. Though she developed cataracts, she still navigates quite well in her home environment and walks in the neighborhood.

True to her beagle and suspected corgi roots, Ella loves to smell every plant we walk by on our walks. She's a smart girl and knows exactly the number of treats she should be getting afterwards...she'll follow you around the house until you've given her each of the three treats she expects. The good news for managing her weight is that she hasn't yet figured out that her treats are actually broken in half, so she's only getting 1.5 instead of 3 treats.

My family and I are delighted to enjoy the love, affection and comfort of Ella and I appreciate the first members of BREW who rescued and fostered her. I hope this fundraiser exceeds its goals!
