The other night I took Rayna up to Olana State Historic Site, which is near where we live.

This girl was found on a street in a neighboring county two years ago. She was in horrible shape needing emergency surgery to save her life. She had pyometra, way too skinny, and they had to improve her vitals before they could do the surgery.

She had most likely lived life in a kennel run that wasn’t used as intended and had seemingly never seen stairs or spent much time in a house. She had no house manners as I would call them. She didn’t seem have a clue about dog play or toys.

She still has anxieties, but they are soooo much less severe. The distance she has come astound even me. I can’t express how much we have learned from her about patience, kindness, love, understanding and a dog’s innate capacity for love in spite of all else.

She’s the most cuddly of our britts. I still remember (and it wasn’t so long ago) when she first rolled over, stretched out those Brittany legs and waited for rubbies. 🥰

What a difference two years makes. So perhaps that’s why this photo means so much to me. I think it shows her in a beautiful light (literally), but her internal sweetness and light, too.
