Smidge was found at about 3 years old, on the streets, 4 pounds (she is now 9 pounds), almost no hair, shivering, broken spiritually, unable to walk, and barely able to eat. At the shelter, she hovered in the corner and cried uncontrollably. I was there making a donation, not for an adoption; I could not leave her there that way and took her home. She showed enormous perseverance, courage, and determination in the next few years. Her fur grew back, she muscled up from long hikes, and she morphed from a dog who was needy, to a dog who was needed for her enormous love, loyalty and dedication to her human. Smidge is now around 15 years old and going strong! She loves hiking and swimming in Bidwell and is training a new puppy on proper etiquette. She is an amazing survivor.
