The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) cares for over 20,000 animals each year with a 93% save rate. These are lost pets hoping to be reunited, stray and abandoned animals, cruelty survivors and pets at risk in other shelters. As the largest animal welfare organization in the region and one of the few remaining open access shelters, an average of 56 animals per day come through Brandywine Valley SPCA's doors seeking safety, love and hope.
Founded in 1929, Brandywine Valley SPCA is the first open admission no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania, and led the way to help Delaware become a no-kill state. The BVSPCA provides animal protective services for Chester County and much of Delaware County in Pennsylvania, as well as Dauphin, Cumberland, and York Counties in Central PA with the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. The BVSPCA also holds the contract with the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare to provide state-wide animal services for lost, stray, abandoned animals and victims of animal cruelty and neglect. Newly expanded to Washington, DC, the BVSPCA is contracged through DC Health to provide animal care and control for the District. Animals are placed through adoption centers across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Washington, DC.
In addition, the Brandywine Valley SPCA provides families with high quality, low-cost veterinary services at its Animal Health Centers in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Washington, DC. The BVSPCA also operates the Animal Rescue Center (ARC) in Georgetown, Delaware, a facility dedicated to helping animals with additional needs prior to being ready for adoption, such as cruelty cases, disaster victims and infants. The ARC also serves as an additional adoption center.
