Your Rescue Story
We found Doogal at a shelter when we were attending a birthday party. He had been a Milk River Rescue as a puppy and was adopted and subsequently surrendered by his family a couple years later due to no fault of his own. We fell in love with him and brought him to our house with 2 kids and an elderly terrier, Maggie who wasn't fond of other dogs.
It took a bit of adjusting for Maggie to warm up but they came to be good buddies. During his first 6 months with us our old Maggie went blind and it took us awhile to realize as Doogal became her "seeing eye dog" whenever Maggie went outside Doogal would guide her on and off the deck and stand between her and the edge of the deck. He'd walk behind her on the stairs and he took over the guard dog duties of barking anytime someone stepped near our sidewalk. He always let Maggie know when it was time to bark. He was by her side as she aged and went from a vibrant sassy terrier to a blind, deaf senior with some dementia.
And then when we had to say goodbye to Maggie, Doogal helped fill the empty spot in our hearts as best he could. He's taught us about unconditional love, appreciating all the small things in life and of course not to leave left over cake on the counter when you have a large dog. He has brought so much love and happiness to our lives , more than we could ever give him . We needed him more than we could ever know. He's the best dog, loving, loyal and goofy.. always happy.
I know he came from a hoarding situation of neglect and starvation as a pup , but he still loves humans and has so much love for his family. We are so grateful that we found him and cant imagine our lives before we rescued him.
I believe some dogs have a way of making us the best versions of ourselves and finding us just when we need them. ♥️
