Your Rescue Story
Whiskey is a disabled husky found starving and abandoned in remote desert outside Alexandria, Egypt. He was discovered only by chance and was brought to a facility to receive urgent medical attention. His severely deformed front right leg was amputated in hopes of him having better mobility. Through the partnership of two rescues - Stray Dog Support in the US and BARC's in Calgary - Whiskey came to Canada on September 17, 2022 to rescue me. When he arrived, he was unable to walk. After countless vet and specialist appointments, it was determined that his remaining front leg had a severe angular deformity - meaning where his bone should be straight, it's actually curved at a 90 degree angle. Surgery to reconstruct his bone wasn't really a feasible option.

So Whiskey and I decided he would live his best life as long as he could, for as long as he was comfortable. He loves hiking and can be found in his doggy back pack wandering the trails of the Rocky Mountains. To celebrate his six-month anniversary of being in Canada, we took a helicopter ride in the Rockies. Every day he grows stronger and continues to amaze me. He is so resilient. He falls, and gets back up again, tail wagging. He loves to learn how to use his wheelchair, and can spend all evening in it, and despite spinning in circles repeatedly as he figures it out, he's so patient.

I say Whiskey rescued me because I truly believe he is here to teach me about unconditional love and patience. I have learned so much from him in the last eight months and I am very grateful for that. He brings so much joy to my life, and I believe he came into my life to help make me a better person. So while he needed a home, it was me that was rescued <3
