Who We Are
From humble beginnings as Parkland Humane SPCA in 1976, we became the Red Deer & District SPCA (for the Society of Cruelty to Animals) in 2000, then amended our name to the Central Alberta Humane Society (for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in 2017. While generations and names have changed, the base commitment to help animals in need and prevent cruelty to animals remains consistent and strong.
The Central Alberta Humane Society (CA Humane) is an adoption center dedicated to the re-homing of unwanted, abandoned, and stray companion animals. We value the lives of all animals and will do all we can to rescue, and provide medical care and rehabilitation wherever possible. As a max adoption facility, we do not euthanize for space but instead, operate a managed admission system. When animals are adopted, this allows us to intake more animals.
Our Mission
We are committed to helping animals and the community, and inspiring change through education.
Our Vision
A compassionate engaged community that respects and supports animals rights to the five essential freedoms:
- Freedom from thirst, hunger and malnutrition
- Freedom from discomfort
- Freedom from pain, injury and disease
- Freedom to express normal behaviour
- Freedom from fear and distress
CA Humane is a not-for-profit charitable organization that is not government funded but rather supported through public donations and a variety of fundraising efforts like this photo contest!
Your support allows us to continue to provide animals with the very best medical care and compassionate support. Your lifesaving gift truly makes a difference to the lost stray and abandoned animals of Central Alberta!
