Pet's Story or Bio
I had been a cat mum for decades but what I was really missing was a best friend I could take along with me everywhere and cuddle forever. Spurred by the loneliness of pandemic life, I woke up one Saturday morning and looked to see who was available online at the SPCA. I was immediately drawn to a little pittie named Peaches. I went to meet her and she rolled belly up, looking at me with pleading eyes. We went for a walk and half an hour later I was taking her home. She was a Buckingham County shelter dump, a young puppy mill mama who was scared and had lost all sense of trust in humans… except me. Peaches was protective of me the minute we met. I didn’t know at the time, but I was about 2 weeks pregnant; I think Peaches knew and she wanted to protect me, which she has done with vigor for the past year. My son was born at home this past March. Peaches was by my side during labour, on the bed, guarding us with pride. Lately, she has learned to trust humans again. She refrains from snapping and barking incessantly; now it’s a wagging tail AND a bark. She loves to lick the baby and your hand, especially if you give her a slice of cheese. She’s learned that chasing the Kong is more fun than rolling in poop and that there are some good, loving humans out there.

When did you adopt your pet from the SPCA?
