Pet's Story or Bio
Laverne, the white hound mix, I saw running down Rio Rd in August 2013 after having escaped the CASPCA in April. She had been brought in by Animal Control after finally being caught down by North Garden and was pregnant and had a bum leg. Laverne gave birth at CASPCA but then she slipped out of her collar before going in for surgery on her leg and was on the loose until I spotted her 4 months later. It took another 3 years however for us to catch her. I eventually figured out where Laverne was hanging it and began feeding her everyday. Officer Crickenberger, SPCA Heather Sullivan and two ladies that worked in the area behind Putt Putt on Rio where Laverne hung out, all came together to help me rescue Laverne in 2016! SPCA kept her for 5 weeks until she was healthy enough for us to foster and then adopt. We have had Laverne for 6 years now and she is doing amazing and loves the indoor life!!
We adopted Sweet Caroline, the German Shepherd, from CASPCA too soon after Oreo our first SPCA dog passed in December 2013. Caroline came with me every time I went to feed Laverne and the two dogs eventually became buddies! Caroline was a huge role model for feral Laverne and the two didn’t like to be without each other. Laverne was truly lost when Caroline passed in January 2020, but has since found a new friend and love!
