We had seen Maxie's picture on the website, and loved her immediately. She had been at the shelter for 6 months, and would not come out of her cage. She had been found in the snow after a February blizzard. She liked to be petted, but only from the safety of her cage. I was told it might take a long while for her to come out of hiding. On the way home I wondered,"What have I gotten myself into?" When we opened the carrier she flew up to the top shelf of a bookcase, and eventually went under the bed. I moved her food and litter box to that bedroom and slept in there with her. Within a week she was venturing into the rest of the house. She has become a lively and spunky cat! Her favorite game is "Where's Maxie?" ((Hide and Seek). BTW, Helen was added to her name when my husband said she reminded him of his Aunt Helen. She does seem to have human qualities. 😻
