Alexander Pegasus and Orlando

A little about me...
Alexander Pegasus started out in life as a stray puppy named Chance. At the tender age of four months he was hit by a car on a country road in Wytheville, Virginia and taken to an animal shelter for treatment of lacerations by a good Samaritan. Although scraped up, he was otherwise unharmed, neutered and transported to DC that February. Our three year search for a collie in the DMV finally led us to Chance as the cherry blossoms descended in the city around Easter--misidentified initially as full grown, his slim 45 pound build indicated mere youth and a bout with Lyme Disease. Pegasus now weighs in at 90 pounds and stands a majestic 33 inches tall, well above average for a rough collie; he is tall and alert, with sighthound tendencies that point to a Borzoi grandparent. Gentle, playful, loyal, and brave, this wonderful boy became the guardian of our home under the lead of the feisty Ajax, a miniature pinscher adopted from North Shore Animal League in New York City in 2005 to accompany a beloved sister receiving chemotherapy at that time. Ajax taught Alexander Pegasus everything he knew before crossing the rainbow bridge in August, 2022. Pegasus inherited the role of protector of the family, reserving a special watchfulness for household members suffering from epilepsy and Parkinson's. On Wolf trax he ranks in the top 100 of dogs who walk for charity. Peggy is pictured here with pal Orlando on his nightly watch at the front door.
