AWLA's annual contest is a chance for Alexandria to celebrate the animals in our community and our special relationship with them. Daphne's experience illustrates how much Alexandrians care about animals. Katie Filous was out walking her dogs and a friend's dog, Daphne, early Wednesday morning when those horrible gunshots rang out. Panicked, Daphne ran off. Katie was now on the ground trying to save herself and her dogs and panicked about Daphne. After this horrible experience, the thing Katie was focused on was finding Daphne and ensuring that she was safe. She spent hours searching for Daphne and turned to Alexandria's community on social media to find her. People responded! Over 155,000 viewed our FB post alone. The word was out and police found Daphne that night and brought her to the safety of the AWLA to be reunited with Katie.
