They told us she was found running alongside the highway. A tiny thing no more than 9 mos old; frightened, hungry, her ribs poking out. With a bark that can only be described as the perfect blend of swan and goat. Was she dumped out of a car? Did she escape a lab that tests beauty products on beagles? She is the first to sniff out a newly applied lipstick or mascara. We search her deep brown eyes, wondering.

She often wins staring contests. She has an internal clock that keeps accurate time. She loves peas. She convinces us of many things. Mostly, that we are so lucky to have rescued this sweetest dog. She is almost 12 now. She is Lucy.
