He was 4 months old when we met. It was a few months after losing Gabriel, (my furry friend of 15 years), when I decided to visit the rescue shelter. My heart was still broken and our house had an empty feeling that was unbearable. Though, there were many beautiful cats & kittens at the rescue shelter, I wasn’t looking for just any kitty. As I turned down the very last row, I saw him! All alone,
Top corner cage, sitting up tall and straight towards the back of the cage. Our eyes locked and I knew…
I think we both knew!

They wouldn’t let me hold him because it was the first year of Covid. So, I talked to him. As I spoke, he never moved, but he never looked away either!

When I said that I wanted to take him home with me, they opened the cage and he walked right over to me, put both feet on my shoulder and practically jumped into my arms. That was my first kitty hug! Then, he pulled his head back, looked me straight in the eyes and gave me a nose bump.

My husband named him Max, in memory of his good friend and war hero.

After 3+ years together, Max is still giving us nose bumps and kitty hugs on a daily basis. And he has the longest tail of any kitty that I’ve ever known! Not only is he loving and sweet, but he is goofy and funny, as well! As portrayed in his photo!

Now, our hearts and our home is filled with lots of kitty love, laughter, nose bumps and kitty hugs!

Some people might say that we rescued Max…
But perhaps, Max rescued us!
