Established in 2008, Crossroads Shih Tzu Rescue (CSTR) is a small rescue with a big heart and a driving commitment to save the Shih Tzu, Shih Tzu mixes and other small breed dogs who need us most... seniors, those with special needs and those released from commercial breeding facilities (aka puppy mills).

Our mission is to rescue as many needy dogs as our resources will allow, to rehabilitate them whenever possible in preparation for their new families and lives, to find the absolute best possible forever homes for those that are adoptable, and to provide a loving and safe home environment for those who are not. Spurred on by that mission, in 2012 we opened Polo's Refuge, CSTR's Senior Dog Retirement Home, to provide a forever home for senior dogs who find themselves in animal shelters and other unfortunate situations with no other hope. CSTR is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. We have no paid staff, and every penny that comes in goes toward the care of the dogs in our program.
