Hi, my name is Ginny and I am intoxicating. I was in an over-crowded shelter in Texas and was very pleased to have the opportunity to be part of a transport to WCHS. I love to play with other dogs as long as they are not the pushy type and we have a slow and proper introduction. I like to take my time when I first meet another dog so I need everyone to be patient and give me a few minutes to warm up; once I am comfortable it is game-on and I will play and run like crazy! In fact, it might be helpful to have another dog in my new home who could show me the ropes. I have not taken my cat-test yet so I do not know how I will get along with felines. If you have a kitty and are interested in me, I suggest you chat with a staff person to find out when I will be meeting a cat. Any children in my home should be 12 years or older; I need them to be respectful of my space because I can get very nervous with handling. I am a happy gal when I am in my kennel and when I am out and about on a walk; but when I am one on one with someone, I prefer attention on my terms. That does not mean we will never be cuddling, only that I need to be relaxed and make the first move, approach you and have some control over the interaction. Maybe we can practice and play the ‘Bucket Game' (developed by trainer Chirag Patel). That is an exercise that teaches me to give permission for various handling and grooming by simply looking at a bucket with yummy treats inside. If I need to take a break because I am feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable, I simply look away from the bucket and that communicates to you I need you to stop for a while. It will take some training and practice but it could be a very helpful tool for us to use. I do enjoy staying active and love long walks with my people to explore and soak in all the wonders of nature; I am 42 pounds of fun and would delight in accompanying you on many adventures. To help keep both my mind and body active perhaps we can get involved in canine sports, nose-work or dog parkour.
