Hello, my name is Maverick and I am a sweet southern boy from Louisiana. I was in an over-crowded shelter down there and volunteered to head north to free up space for other pups who were displaced by the hurricane. Things have been so crazy lately and I have been feeling a bit discombobulated so at times I may seem a tad anxious in my kennel; I hope you will be patient with me so that you get the opportunity to see the real me shine through. I am very submissive and sometimes do a little submissive peeing; it is not my fault and I am not trying to be naughty I am simply feeling a little overwhelmed. It is also something you can definitely help me with when I am part of your family; we just need to keep things calm and give me opportunities to go outside before any excited greetings. I can be shy when first meeting new people and need to be given time to get comfortable; it might be best to let me approach new folks in my own time. I could share my home with a dog buddy because I have a grand time playing with other pups, although I appreciate proper introductions with my canine pals too. I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things. I have not taken my cat-test yet so if you have a kitty and are interested in adding me to your family you should chat with someone on the staff to find out when that is scheduled. My family could include gentle and respectful children of all ages; I will need them to understand I prefer slow introductions to new things and a tranquil environment. Once I am comfortable with someone, I adore tender pats, scratches and cuddles; just a 60-pound lover who wants to crawl into your lap. Maybe we can play games that will boost my self-esteem like touch, focus, nose-work, dog parkour or tricks training. Did you know that learning new skills can improve a dog's confidence?
