Pet's Story
In October of 2007, our cat, Pumpkin was rescued by Lumpkin County Sheriff Department in a drug raid. They knew I loved animals and brought Pumpkin to me at my work. Pumpkin was very skinny and skittish of humans because of his living environment and unforving treatment for the first three years of his life. Pumpkin would not let anyone pet him and he refused to come in the house no matter how cold it got. We got him a cat house with a heater that he enjoyed for years. Pumpkin endure so many harsh winters to finally gain our trust to come inside to the warmth of our home. Today Pumpkin is a very loving cat and is inside more than out. He is loyal to our autistic son, Luca. Most days Pumpkin can be found in Luca's room on gaurd by day. At bedtime Pumpkin loves to snuggle up next to Luca as he falls asleep. Today, Pumpkin loves head rubs and attention, a far cry from many years ago. Pumpkin is around 17 years old now, and we are blessed to have him as our friend, hunter, and house protector.

Why my pet should win
Pumpkin is so handsome and has overcome so much hurt and disappointment in humans. He learned to regain trust and shows acceptance to Luca, our autistic son that endured the same treatment the first 5 years of his life that Pumpkin did in his first 3 years of life. They share this incredible bond, both being non-verbal, they each understand the adversity they both came from.
