Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States
We do this by:
1. Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
2. Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
3. Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
4. Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
5. Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

My three wonderful boys. I never intended to have three. I wanted a dog. Marble was my first, and I adopted Natey from the local shelter when Marble's best friend moved away and he became deeply depressed. Then I agreed to foster Tomato when he was found running around on a freeway near my home and the foster happily failed. Marble (left) and Tomato (center) are sweet, gentle, cuddly, loving and friendly. Natey (right) is my wild little rock and roller, always on the move. If I wake up at 3 a.m. needing to use the bathroom, he'll hopefully dash off to find a ball for me to throw for him while I'm on the toilet. I'm currently limping because in my efforts to play fetch with Natey while the other two sat on my lap, I picked up his ball with my toes so that I could throw it again. A few hundred times in one evening. No, he's not upset in this photo. He was happily eating treats and chasing after a ball. Despite their very different personalities, my boys are very loyal to one another. If I take them to a dog park, each will meet and play with his own friends, but let a dog threaten one of the three, and the other two come running immediately to protect him. They have changed my life immeasurably.
