Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States
We do this by:
1. Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
2. Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
3. Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
4. Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
5. Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

Your Pet's Story or Bio
From left to right, Oli, Bella, Phoebe Weenie, and Jake. I rescued Oli 3 years ago, he was a stray in Alabama who was in terrible condition due to his color dilute alopecia which is a condition that is non cureable due to bad breeding. He is hairless on the top of his body and suffers from skin issues. He also has a wardrobe as big as his moms! He is now learning to trust people and be loved! He comes to work with me everyday at my salon and greets all the clients for a carrot. Bella I have had since she was 8 weeks old. She is the leader of our pack and runs the show! Phoebe Weenie we rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri where she was bred for litters over and over again at a very young age. She was very fortunate to get rescued at a young age of 2 1/2 yrs old. She is the most loving and happy dog! Jake we rescued 4 years ago from Maryland. He was totally neglected and left outdoors to fend for himself. He ended up with a tick borne disease that left his body and legs very cripled and so stiff. He also lost all but two teeth when brought in to rescue during his dental. His mouth was so infected his jaw shattered during his dental. The infection went to his ears and made him mostly deaf. Jake suffered from IVDD two years ago that completely paralyzed him but after exstensive physical therapy and rest he is now able to potty all on his own. I have never known any living thing to be so strong and resilent after all the horrific things that have happened to him! Jake loves to always have his eyes on his mommy, what little eye sight he has left, eating breakfast and dinner and snacks, licking his fur siblings and going out to potty! Rescuing these babies was the best thing that ever happened to my life! We call our family, the wiener family! Kelly
