Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States.
We do this by:- Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
- Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
- Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
- Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
- Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

Doc and Wyatt are rescues that were saved from a puppy mill. They were stuck in small cages with 17 other dogs. Poor Wyatt was stuck on the bottom of the cage with all the other dogs on top of him. He was so skinny the vet didn’t think he would survive. When the humane society finally helped the sherif save over 200 dogs Doc and Wyatt were rushed to a vet. They were both about dead. After a week with great care from such a compassionate vet they started gaining weight. The vet noticed when they put Doc in a separate kennel away from Wyatt he would stop eating and just cry non stop. The babies couldn’t be separated. The vet had the challenge of finding a home for not just one dachshund but two. The vet knew just the right home for them. I was called and asked if I could handle 2 new 2 month old puppies that has only known living in a cage. After my husband finally met our new additions we don’t know what life is like before they arrived. They are in luck because we have rescued dachshunds John Wayne and Jessie James and their rescued kitties Josie Wales and Yo summity Sam to show them the ropes. They do everything together. This is how they sleep in their bed. They are just waking up from one of their many naps they take through the day. We are so lucky to have been chosen to care for these amazing little babies. We are empty nesters and they brought so much joy to our home. Even my old grouchy Dachshunds John Wayne and Jessie James has welcomed them to their gang. Without such great groups like the Jacksonville Humane society and Dare these poor babies would have been dead or crippled. We are blessed to just be a part of their lives. Thank you for letting us have a chance to be in your calander.
