Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education, Inc. (DARE) views its mission as increasing public awareness against animal cruelty and overpopulation while rescuing and re-homing displaced and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mix dogs primarily throughout the North Central region of the state of Florida, in the Continental Unites States.
We do this by:- Rescuing and socializing abandoned, neglected, abused, orphaned and/or surrendered dachshunds and dachshund mixes by providing temporary safe shelter and medical/dental treatments as needed.
- Procuring temporary foster homes and permanent new homes for rescued dachshunds that will provide a safe and nurturing home environment.
- Ensuring no dachshund shall be adopted for the purposes of breeding or scientific/medical experimentation.
- Providing education to the public on the dachshund breed, puppy mills, and responsible pet guardianship including, but not limited to, humane animal care and spay/neuter practices.
- Displaying courtesy, respect and fellowship toward all volunteers in appreciation of services and support rendered to dachshund rescue and to promoting enhanced teamwork among all rescuers.

A little about me...
I adopted Leah from DARE on July 3, 2010, in Yulee, Florida. She was three years old when she came into my life. She quickly became my little shadow and my sweet girl. She loved to sleep under the covers and on top of the couch. She gave the sweetest kisses when you said, “Leah give me kiss.” She got to see the beach several times, the mountains once, and snow twice in South Georgia. She moved with me four times over ten years. Birthdays were a big deal where she received special treats, an outfit and toys. I even made a couple of special dog cakes/treats just for her. We would go doggie carnivals and wiener dog races.
The last two years of her life she finally got a real dog dad named Ben and a dog brother named Bandit. Ben and Leah developed their own bond over time. Ben learned to love Leah just as much as I did. Bandit and Leah peacefully cohabited together and enjoyed snuggling together on the couch. We were a real family for four. We bought a house and moved into it January of this year. Everything was perfect. Leah got the house and family she deserved. I even got to be the work from home dog mom I always wanted to be this year. This allowed me to spoil both Leah and Bandit even more than before. I got more time with them than I would have otherwise. God works in mysterious ways… I was blessed to work from home since March which allowed me to devote the extra care that Leah needed at thirteen years old. She peacefully crossed the rainbow on Sunday, August 9 in her sleep. She was my world for ten years and brought so much joy to my life. She will be missed dearly.
