Pet's Story
I did not want a second daucshaund really. Especially not a mini or long hair. Just wanted to appease strange yearnings to bring a pup to the best doggie home ever. Mine! I had already spoiled Aman, my short haired weiner, 5yo, who came from harsh surroundings. And had lost Jordan, another short hair, to cancer two years prior. Anyway.......
Cairo's picture popped up and i didn't like the way she was being held. No love. Like property. So I felt I had to step in. I just felt that she wouldn't have a chance without me. So.…
I contacted the seller and said I'll take her.
She was sooooo tiny. Huge eyes!! A little sad I felt. I had to stop four times on the five hour trip home to clean up a potty break. All pottying was on me. She insisted on being in my lap. (We got intimate quickly.)
I was called into work two days after getting her. I had a playpen for her, but didn't want to leave her alone. I was in panic mode. Luckily my Mom came to sit with her for the 7 hour shift.
I got home and there was silence. No crying. Yipping. Yelling. Nothing. Now get, that this baby had made it known to me that I belonged to her. Run to the store, put her in pen. Yell with glee when I return. Etc. But now.....nothing?
"Mom. What's wrong with her?"
"Nothing. She's just tired."
"No. Something is wrong."
Panic mode...!!!!!!!!!
I didn't buy it. I knew my girl after two days together and knew she should been having a fit for a kiss.
We go to the pet ER. There she is found to have a glucose level of 21 I think. Weighs 14oz. And needs 24 hour feedings. IV. Monitoring. (Ever seen an IV in a 14oz baby?) Heartbreaking.
The great staff took incredible care of Cairo. I took her home at a whopping 17oz! I took time off of work to be sure she got her syrup every 2 hours. I woke up about every three hours to feed her tiny gastric system. Ug!
She pooped constantly!! I'd wake up with poop on my pillow. (And face. Oh. She slept with me. I just couldn't leave her in a pen and alone.) Pee everywhere. I was stressed! Little sleep. Demanding baby puppy! Keeping a log of her feedings; which I still have. And just a lot of care.
My Dad had died in my arms just a year before. I cared for him for 13 years. So. Perhaps she was graced unto me to heal my broken heart.
She is the most trusting, loving, devilish, sweet, trouble making, georgous, short, nice teethed, charmer, and great kisser that blesses me with her love every day.
Just like my Dad did.
Thanks again Pop!!!!!
And thank you Cairo for saving my heart.
I love you baby.
